Grandma’s Spaghetti Sauce

A recipe that has been passed down from generation, to generation, and now to you… My Grandma’s famous Meat Sauce Spaghetti also known as Spaghetti Bolognese.

Ingredients:
- 2 lbs hamburger meat (80-90% lean ground beef preferred)
- 1/2 large or 1 medium chopped onion
- 1/2 chopped green bell pepper
- 2 tbsp chopped celery
- 2-3 cloves minced garlic
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 2-3 tsp salt
- 1-2 tbsp parsley
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1/4 tsp cayenne
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp thyme
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1/4 tsp rosemary
- 1 package spaghetti dry mix
- 2- 16oz cans tomato sauce
- 1- 6oz can tomato paste
- 3-4 cups canned chopped tomatoes
- *optional* 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- Pasta of choice (I like angel hair pasta for this recipe!)

Directions:

**I will start with sautéing the meat and veggies in a large frying pan and then will be transferring to a crockpot to add remaining ingredients and for the remainder of cooking. You can also just use one big pot or Dutch oven on the stove if you do not have a crockpot.**

1. Chop veggies & mince garlic.
2. Heat frying pan on medium (no oil necessary.)
3. Saute meat & chopped onions together.
4. Drain excess liquid into cup and dispose of.
5. Add chopped green pepper, celery, garlic.
6. Add some spices: chili powder, salt, brown sugar, parsley, oregano.
7. Transfer to crockpot (heat on high)
8. Add remaining ingredients (tomato sauce, tomatoes, tomato paste, and any additional seasonings to taste) bring to boil.
9. Simmer 2 hours on high or 4 hours on low (the longer the better the flavor)
10. STIR FREQUENTLY, turn down heat if boiling rapidly.
11. Serve with pasta, top with parsley and some Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese!

ENJOY! Save some sauce for lasagna night later in the week!

This sauce will last for many meals, 10-12+ servings. Recommendation *depending on family size* freeze half of the sauce for use another time. Also keep a few cups of sauce for use in lasagna.
