The Magic of Tulum

The magic of Tulum 💫✨

There is more to this beautiful place than just the pristine beaches, turquoise blue water, delicious food, incredible architecture, and a super fun party scene… Which, don’t get me wrong, are all part of why this city has come to be one of my favorites… But it is much more than that. In this post, I will go deeper into the wellness and spiritual side of Tulum and what types of healing you can find there. Following this will be another which will have recommendations on places to stay, things to do, etc, but wanted to first introduce you all to why this place holds such a special place in my heart.

What started off as a soul searching trip to Tulum to experience a place I had never been for just a few days, turned to endless weeks and months of incredible experiences. Tulum has what feels like magical healing powers in the air.

There are only two places I have ever experienced something like this and that was in Chiang Mai, Thailand after a powerful meditation with monks at a Buddhist temple, and at a ceremony of letting go with a high priestess in Bali. How does this come to be? How can one feel energy in the air?

Tulum just happens to be an energy vortex, and one of the most powerful ones on the planet. There are only a handful of places that you can experience this phenomenon. These are places of high energy that allow our own electro-magnetic field to be amplified by the energy of nature.

It is said that the energy vortex is so strong in Tulum as this is where the asteroid hit just off the coast in the Gulf of Mexico which is believed to have caused the extinction of the dinosaurs over 66 million years ago. Thus creating a powerful energetic field around this part of the Quintana Roo region. This energy vortex is said to have the power to amplify prayers, feelings, thoughts, emotions, and meditations. I certainly experienced that while I was there and following this I will go more into depth about my experiences there.

You will find that most of the hotels in Tulum, especially in the hotel zone on the beach, offer wellness, healing, and yoga classes. The most common ones you will find are the:

1. Temezcal- An ancient healing ritual and ceremony of rebirth which takes place in a sweat lodge with intense heat, typically led by a shaman.

2. Cacao Ceremony- Another ancient ritual for healing, inner reflection, and peace that involves drinking the sacred cacao drink (raw chocolate), intention setting, and ecstatic dance.

I did not participate in the Cacao ceremony but did opt for the Temezcal and wow was it amazing and intense but so very worth it. There are many other ceremonies that these places offer, another common one you will find is the Wim Hoff ice bath and breathing/meditation class. I did not participate in one of these but also have heard amazing things about it. Some of the most highly recommended healing, wellness, and yoga class locations are as follows. These are all hotels as well and most of them will offer at least one if not all of the classes complimentary included with your stay. Non guests just have to pay a fee of typically $10-$25.

These are only a handful of the properties that I am familiar with and have had experience with going to, there are hundreds more that are actually there! Now I will go into more depth about the actual experiences I had while there.

Tulum gives you what you seek and you must go with clear intentions to get the most out of it. It wasn't until I fully surrendered to these experiences that I finally was able to see the light. And I truly mean the light! I participated in many healing classes that have completely opened my mind all while being completely sober. There are special plant ceremonies that you can partake in to open your mind even further but this is not something that I have tried yet.

The healing magic is not just in the air 💫 but the magical healing waters also flow beneath your feet. The hundreds of cenotes scattered around the region are the sacred places that the Mayans used to access these sacred waters and places that are a must visit when in this area. Tulum is a place where you can be one with nature 🌿 and one with the universe. Expats there have even created their own lifestyle centered around these ideals, the Tuluminati way of life. 💫

Some of the incredible healing ceremonies that I have taken part in have been at Holistika Tulum. During these ceremonies I truly let my mind and body surrender to them and experienced levels of healing I never thought possible both from traumatic relationships and the loss of my brother.

I never could have imagined the connection I would find to the universe here but that’s exactly what I found and what keeps bringing me back every opportunity I get. Holistika is a very special, incredibly peaceful, and spiritual place. Beyond the hotel grounds there is nothing but jungle. A holistic healing center with wellness classes, yoga classes, an amazing vegan/vegetarian restaurant, multiple pools, and all the good vibes. It truly is a place to breathe and reconnect.

The top 4 best healing classes I took while in Tulum are as follows:

• The first class I took was the Soul Ascension Activation class. In this class we were guided from the 3rd to the 8th dimension to open up the Akashic records of our lives. It started with all of us laying in the resting pose of savasana, and we were told to visualize a white room with our favorite things/things that mean the most to us. I visualized a white room in Greece with a window looking out to the ocean. The room was full of lillies, candles, and my ex (what, no!). In my head I heard a loud “NO” get out of here. The vision of him slowly burned away, the room turned black, then turned back to a white room filled with all of my family and friends. We were then told to visualize our divine self in the mirror: glowing golden happy with no stress, then told to write ourselves a letter to read at the end of our journey. The next part of the journey in our minds, we were told to step onto a magic carpet that would take us up to the cosmos. While there my mind wandered and what I saw was fascinating. Floating in space with the planets and the stars circling, dust flowing between, information transferring, expanding the mind. I saw colors, I saw light, I truly was ascending. This is where we accessed the records. Ironically, I have no memory of this part so I can’t actually tell you what I saw there. Once we accessed these records we were guided to hop back on the magic carpet and descend back to the white room. Say goodbye to our divine self, while doing so it was time to read the letter - “let it go” is what I had written to myself, over and over again, to let go of the pain. We were then to close the akashic records like locking a cabinet away, closing multiple doors. Sensations diminishing. Coming back to the 3rd dimension, back to our bodies. There are many interpretations of what this message could be but what it meant to me was to finally let go of the pain I was holding in around my very difficult and traumatic breakup. I could actually feel a weight lifted from my body. It was an emotional journey but only the beginning of what came to be some of the most intense healing classes I have ever taken. This was the perfect class to prepare me for what was coming next.

• The following day we decided to conquer a Temezcal ceremony. I say conquer because these ceremonies are not for the faint of heart. They are intense and truly push you to your limits. The Temezcal, which translates to “house of heat” is an ancient Mayan sacred healing and ceremony of rebirth led by a shaman. It starts off with everyone in a half circle around a fire pit where there are volcanic rocks being heated in the fire. There is a ritual the shaman completes with each person individually standing in the smoke of the fire before they enter the sweat lodge/concrete dome where the ceremony takes place. This ritual is to cleanse the mind, body, and spirit before entering this sacred place. Everyone then goes into the dome and one by one the heated volcanic rocks are brought into the chamber along with an array of teas and water that are put on the rocks throughout the ceremony to awaken the senses and increase the level of the heat and steam. The entrance is sealed by a door and the inside of the dome goes completely dark, the only light coming from the glowing rocks. The shaman then begins to guide us through each of the levels, each level getting more intense with chanting and steam, and heat, and sweat. This ceremony had 4 doors, and when we got through 4 levels we thought we made it through the entire ceremony. But we had barely gotten started and the first door was nothing compared to the next or the next after that. When we made it to all levels of each “door”, the entrance was opened and MORE rocks were brought inside to intensify the heat. I lost track of the count of the rocks at the end but it was somewhere around 30 in that dome and they were not small rocks! We weren’t told how hot it got in there but I can tell you that is the most I have ever sweat in my life. The 3rd door was the door that connects to the mind, and through this door I was finally able to open my mind and see the cosmos once again. It was as if the shaman and I were the only two in the dome, even though there were 13 other people in there. A portal opened from him directly to me and then the ceiling of the dome disappeared and I was back out floating around the cosmos. I had broken the barriers and ascended once again. Another truly out of body experience. At the end of the ceremony we crawled out of the dome one by one. This symbolizes the rebirthing part of the ceremony and it truly felt as if I was being born again. I crawled out barely able to stand or see straight (having been in the dark and sitting for so long - nearly 2.5 hours!) There was an outdoor shower that I went straight to and a special cold drink they gave us which instantly brought me back to life. A ceremony that truly tested our limits and what an incredible experience it was!

• The next two ceremonies were the Sonic Vibration Healing ceremony and the Light Portal Ceremony. Both of these ceremonies were incredibly emotional and brought up a lot of pain that I had been holding onto, once again from both past relationships and the loss of my brother. Something beautiful also happened with both of these ceremonies. At the end of them, all of the pain that I had felt and all of the bad energy that was being stored in my body, was released, and I saw light and felt this incredible wave of positive energy flowing throughout my body. It was uplifting, and rejuvenating, and I felt light as a feather and free as a bird. I saw visions of my brother and others that I have lost. Everyone was happy and dancing and there was light everywhere. This specifically happened with the light portal ceremony. During the sonic vibration healing class I experienced a smaller level of light and visions that were brought on by sounds and chanting. During the light portal ceremony it was brought on by physical touch and high energy of musical instruments and chanting.

These are just some of the healing/wellness classes that had the biggest impact upon me while I was in Tulum and I highly recommend all of them. A visit to Holistika is an absolute must, whether it’s just for a class, a day, or an overnight stay. I’ve stayed multiple times on the property in both the dorm rooms and the private rooms. Even when not staying there it’s amazing to just go and spend the day wandering around the peaceful grounds and dining in the restaurant.

Tulum is an incredibly special and spiritual place. My intentions have been to heal and find peace and that’s exactly what I found there. My heart is becoming whole and happy again. I’ve taken many years off of traveling and travel blogging like I used to and this is me finally making my way back to exploring again. Welcome back to my journey around the world!

The light within me honors the light within you… Namaste
